The letterhead is actually a legal form for:
"No. 5009. - Criminal Complaint.
In the Justice Court in and for the County of Jefferson
Montana Territory."

Above the title of this document is found "Pioneer Press Co., Printers, Stationers and Legal Blanks, St. Paul, Minn."

Dated March 13th A.D. 1886. It reads in its entirety:
"Territory of Montana
vs.Thos. Crahan}
Complaint.
Personally appeared before me this day C. J. Wooster who, first being duly sworn, complains and says: That one Thos Crahan did, on or about the 13th day of March A.D. 1886, at Wickes, Jefferson County, Montana Territory, with force and arms commit upon the person of this complainant an assault with a deadly weapon, to-wit, a pair of brass or iron knuckles, with intent to inflict upon the person of this complainant serious bodily injury, by striking this complainant on the head with said brass or iron knuckles, and did otherwise maltreat and abuse this complainant -

all of which is contrary to the form of the statute in such case made and provided, and against the peace and dignity of the People of the Territory of Montana.
Said complainant, therefore, prays that a warrant may be issued for the arrest of the said Thos Crahan and that he may be dealt with according to law.

In the lower left hand corner are the remarks

The reverse side reads:

Below the official language is found again "No. 5009.- Pioneer Press, St. Paul, Minn."
