The engraving on the letterhead shows a miner and a farmer, with the state motto "Oro y Plata" (gold and silver). Above the engraving are the words "Lith Pioneer Press Co. St. Paul."
Dated May 24, 1887. This letter is a request for a warrant for payment of "traveling expenses, telegrams, &c" and postage stamps in the amount of $75.00 to cover the costs of mustering Captain H. Schmalhausen's and Captain D. Lamont's companies of the National Guard at Virginia City and Dillon, as ordered by the governor. C. W. Turner signed the request. J. W. Kinsley notarized the request and Wm. B. Webb, Acting Governor, approved the payment.
