The letterhead is from the "Office of M. H. Parker Attorney at Law" in Townsend, Montana.
Dated Aug 10th 1886. The letter reads:
"J. E. Dougherty Esq
Radersburg Mont
Dear Sir
Your note bears date March 17th 1886 - for the sum of $372.44 payable on or before July 15th 1886 with int [interest] at one per cent per month from date until paid.
I received the order on A. Macomber for the sum of $100.00 also the order on $40.00 This latter order I sent to Huntly and Clark for payment or acceptance, but have been unable to hear from them I make the balance due on your note the sum of $289.80 after giving you credit for the $100.00 order.
Will you kindly remit said balance [soon?] as it is now past the time that I should have made my final report to the firm
